What is causing the Teflon Products and PVDF Price Increases.
Over the last year, the industry has had more challenges than I have seen around my three decades experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have seen several shortages, and delivery problems resulting from resin allocations from plastic resin suppliers. This is actually the first time I have seen all these issues at the same time.
PTFE Sheet (TFE) and Kynar - PVDF are both on allocation.
Both of these resins are in short supply. The PTFE Sheeting product PTFE (TFE) and also PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that's mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide requirement for this mineral has grown significantly, additionally, the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and incredibly low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is utilized throughout a great deal of applications from non-stick fry pots and pans to ptfe tape for use at home. This specific mineral is a crucial raw materials inside the manufacturing of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and several refrigerants. This escalating demand joined together with shortage of raw materials is mainly responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double within the past year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to continue in the near future.
