Barbados Historical Wooden House
The Elder's Last Word. The old man increased slowly, cleaning sand from his trousers. He turned toward the little wooden home as though taking a look at an old buddy.
" One day," he stated, "people gon' forget what this house really suggest. They gon' think it was just pretty wood and intense paint. But you-- you write the story now. Ensure they keep in mind.".
He stopped briefly, letting the sea-grape leaves rustle in the stillness.
" This house is we. All the moving, all the surviving, all the dreams we leave and carry from one location to the next. When you comprehend that, you understand Barbados.".
And with that, he left-- slow, constant, calm-- like a man who carried his own house inside him.
This story becomes part of the much deeper cultural journey explored in Rogues in Paradise and the RoguesCulture Identity Series.
